I would say that about 80% of the people coming to our studio come with an injury originally.

We recommend you to start with a consultation where we will assess your injury, muscle imbalances, your range of movements, flexibility, strength etc..

The consultation is 1 hour and costs £45.

Depending on your own ability you will be directed to do private sessions (30min or 1 hour) or straight into our classes suitable to your level.

 

At Sandrine’s Pilates we specialise in back injuries, knees, hips and shoulders rehabilitation.

We work on Pilates equipment such as the reformer, chair,  the cadillac, barrels etc.. The resistance of the  Pilates equipment helps us to stretch the muscles intensely and this builds the strength while increasing flexibility.

This means you gain a heightened muscular endurance and your body can cope with more rigorous workouts.

We have been open for the last 16 years and we are very pleased to be working very closely with reputable GP’s, physiotherapists and Osteopaths.

Pilates in known to be good to restore function following neurological impairments such as strokes, Parkinson’s and MS, and is ideal for reducing the effects of aging, osteoporosis and menopause.

Many injuries are caused by muscular imbalances within our bodies. Many things cause these imbalances, our posture, the way we walk, bend over, sit, lie down, or work out, well basically the way we move. Most of us move incorrectly in some way or another, which puts too much pressure on some muscles and weakens others, causing an imbalance. That is often the case after an injury as your body will start compensating and therefore create imbalance within your body.

Take the back, for example: the way we move may put too much pressure on the spine, while weakening the pelvic muscles in the front of the body or vice-versa. Either scenario creates an imbalance, which means the body is much more perceptible to serious strains, pulls, tears or worse.

I personally find as people have limited time for their fitness they tend to concentrate on working out hard but not listening what their body really needs ending up with injuries. I see too many workouts designed for younger bodies that are not suitable for the 30 and over adult but still people are so willing to push themselves doing the wrong workout that they injure themselves.

Another big cause of injuries is postural problems. Sitting at a desk for long periods, driving, commuting etc..

Proper posture minimises stress and maximises the strength of all joint movements.

There are a number of famous examples that show just how effective Pilates can be in recovering from injury. One of the great examples is Great Britain tennis superstar Andy Murray. Murray underwent back surgery in 2013 after suffering an injury. He added Pilates to his rehabilitation routine to aid his recovery on the advice of his fitness coach. Since adopting this regime, he has had great success, winning two Grand Slams and 11 ATP Tour events. He claims to be fitter than ever. I am sure you can do it too.
