Sandrine’s Pilates is the Certifying Studio for the PhysicalMind Institute New York in Europe and has done so for the past 10 years. We offer teacher certification programmes in Pilates Matwork, Standing Pilates with Tye4 and Pilates Equipment. We do not have any bridging courses or different levels courses, you will learn all levels on all apparatus, the classical way, with modification for rehabilitation.
I purposely choose to keep the certification programmes the way it used to be taught and strongly believe that these courses are a way for these new Pilates schools to get instructors paying more money for the same certification.

The PhysicalMind Institute New York, originally called “the Method Pilates” was created by Eve Gentry (who trained with Joseph Himself), Michele Larsson and Joan Breibart. The institute was the first to create an International Certification Programme in 1991.

On an historic note, Eve Gentry was introduced to Joe and Clara’s studio as she was having knee and back issues having been a dancer all her life. After studying with Joe, she began to teach Contrology at his studio from the late 1930s until she moved to New Mexico in 1968. In Sante Fe, New Mexico she established the Institute for the Pilates Method of Conditioning that is when PMI was created.

Equipment Certification:

• a 10-week course (approx 500 hours), including class work, practice,  assistant teaching, observation and homework, to prepare students for the final certification exam.

• A learning process that is presented seamlessly, elegantly and clearly by one of our Elite Certifying Teachers so that you understand the fine points of the apparatus exercises; relevant anatomy; modifications and contra-indications; spring formulas; and how to teach real people, not just other instructors.

• Learn to teach the Original Exercise Protocols on the Reformer, Cadillac/Wall Unit, and Wunda Chair. Apprentice through practice, observation and assistant teaching during and following the 10-week course. The date and length of the course will depend on your commitment to your hours to the studio. We recommend 25 to 30 hours weekly. We do have weekly courses for local instructors or weekend courses if you live away from Kent. Becoming a certified Pilates instructor should take about 12 to 18 months with a final exam by that time.

The course will allow you to:

 • Induct and assess clients who are apparently healthy or requiring postural assessment.

• Prepare and instruct Pilates using the full range of Pilates equipment for one-on-one or small group formats.

• Lead and instruct Pilates exercises for clients with postural needs.

• Incorporate the use of small apparatus in the delivery of exercises for clients who are apparently healthy or requiring postural address.

  • “I first worked with Sandrine and her team at Sandrine’s Pilates in February 2010 where she tailored a Pilates session especially for my ‘On Camp with Kelly’ initiative. Since then Sandrine and her team have been involved with many Kelly Holmes Education programmes.  I am really impressed by Sandrine’s knowledge, enthusiasm, professionalism and her ability to adapt each session to include elements of challenge, learning and development. Believe me when I say one of Sandrine’s  sessions makes you alert and gets you switching on your core muscles!”

  • “Sandrine has really helped me to re-educate my training on my core stability, flexibility and balance. I enjoy learning new ways of testing my ability and challenging my body. Sandrine has been such a great support with this over the years and I love going to the studio to use specialist equipment.”

  • “BarrePlus classes at Sandrine’s Pilates studio really changed my body shape. I am now the smallest and strongest I have ever been. Classes are very challenging but fun too. At Sandrine’s Pilates I have not just changed my body and posture but I have made friends too, it is very social and friendly.”

  • “I have been referred by my osteopath to go to Sandrine’s after a major surgery in my lower back. Her expertise, encouragement, support and patience help me in my recovery. I would never have been able to go back to my daily tasks without her help. I even went back skiing last year. Thank you.”
